Another day another vector. I wanted to try something different here. I hate creating water, so the more I do it, hopefully the better I'll get. I wanted to do a bigger project also. I created this mostly with gradient mesh with simple shapes in Illustrator CS4. I hope you enjoy this, I got more coming.

water is indeed very hard in vector, im no good with meshing but your tutoriols have given me inspiration to try it again

i got a good water effect with just doing layers over layers over more layers of different drawn shapes with colors and different oppacities, although once the layers reached a certain point the brain of my computer shut down

id love some feedback from an accomplished vector artist like yourself on some of my new pieces (granted my gallery isnt nearly as accomplished)

I like the way you created your water in that aircraft carrier piece. You have some nice vector work. Don't down your work. We artist are usually our own worst critics. Keep pushing yourself to get better and enhancing your skill

thanks! and ya i hear ya on our own worst critic bit.

my fundamental barrier in vectoring is spherical objects, like the nose of the carrier for example, due to my lack of meshing knowledge i had no real effective way to capture the spherical depth of the ship, thus it looks rather plain

Meshing will be the way to go to create those type of objects. Check out my gradient mesh introduction video in my gallery, that should help you. Be patient and good luck.

So, I spent quite q while looking at that piece.

As always it is quite impressive, and your use of the mesh is effective and interesting.

However, I find the piece has a feel of "plasticity" that I am not certain you wanted to have.

I would be extremely interested to see how it would look with some appropriate textures.

Good work as always!

Thanks for checking it out. I know what your saying about the plastic look, but I feel it has more to do with the background (water) part of it. I've been having a problem creating water using gradient mesh. I'll keep working on it though. I don't use textures in Illustrator, I guess I need to read up on that.
